The melody is Goodnight Saigon composed by Billy Joel and the sonnet is No Word Spoken by Edward J. Domaleski. These two are altogether different however rotate around one central matter; the American troopers involvement with the Vietnam war. Joel expounds all in all war understanding while Domaleski expounds just on one lone fight. Domaleski is likewise more definite than Joel in his composition. Domaleski's lines of verse cautiously depict the areas of a fight, while Joel's for the most part depict the hardships of the American troopers during the war. No Word Spoken stars off by portrays a few officers walking through a woods. They hear something, not recognizing what it is they spread out to examine. Monkeys start moving around and it is currently coming down, the fighters are advised quietly to be calm they don't relax. They see four of the foe, quietly requested to start the battle, projectiles fly and clasps unfilled. When the fight is finished what's more, there are no more shouts quiet requests are surrendered to get and scan the bodies for anything significant that can be utilized on their anticipating venture. Before the officer leaves he glances around and sees the smell of death, however he is quietly advised to go forward. Through this entire fight there was not a solitary verbal request given, it was all by hand. The utilization of hand flags rather than words causes the officers to feel desolate and distressed. It exacerbates an awful circumstance even. Billy Joel's verses talk about Parris Island, a spot where the officers took on a conflict. He discusses the Americans readiness by saying that they where sharp as blades. This goes connected at the hip with the gung-ho disposition of the new soldiers, they believed they were prepared to guard their nation. Tamelesss ponies portrays how they went in to fight and in plastic as numbered cadavers says how they left. They went into to fight in a condition of wildness, however were dead toward its finish. Joel likewise discusses how not many assets the Americans could have, for example, an extravagance thing like delicate cleanser. They had no homefront which means they where never in one place for a significant stretch of time. Be that as it may, the administration gave them Playboy magazine and appearances by Bob Hope to keep the their assurance up during the war. The officers had have confidence in themselves and needed to have confidence in Jesus Christ. These two things would isolate the causalities from the survivors. The officers had no cameras to shoot the scene which was most likely generally advantageous, so not to recollect a portion of the revulsions. They passed the hash funnel and tuned in to the Entryways only for a getaway from the hellfire that they were in. The officers were additionally terrified by the dim around evening time since they did not recognize what was out there. The lines recall Charlie recollect Dough puncher are about lost officers who left their adolescence on each section of land and were to youthful to bite the dust. The Americans administered the day since they could perceive what was going on around them, however the Vietnamese had command over the night since it was their condition that the war was going on in. The Americans went through about a month and a half on Parris Island battling the Vietnamese. The Americans battled from the coastline attempting to take the good country away from them, however they didn't have the foggiest idea that their foe was as sharp as they were, if not considerably more honed. The Vietnamese heard the murmur of our engines .. checked the rotors; they were sitting tight and prepared for the American fortifications. Which is demonstrated in the result of the war in which the Vietnamese won. Billy Joel closes with we will all go down together. This is the reason the Americans made due as long as they did. They stayed together, similar to sibling to sibling. I respect the fighters of this war more than some other war for three reasons. To begin with, the war may have been the hardest on the grounds that they didn't have the foggiest idea who they were battling. Also, these American officers were very little more seasoned than I am currently, I don't know whether I could do what they needed to. Finally, they didn't have the full sponsorship of their nation that they were giving up their lives to protect, yet they dove in head first at any rate. This sonnet and this tune are recollections of a horrible yet significant time in American history. For the individuals who experienced it, it encourages them recall that gracewright197423http://www.blogger.com/profile/17427877815216167041noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3781469143347772366.post-36869648856749894462020-08-14T01:33:00.001-07:002020-08-14T01:33:02.377-07:00Health Care OrganizationsHealth Care Organizations The Impact of External Influences on Health Care Organizations HomeâºTechnology PostsâºThe Impact of External Influences on Health Care Organizations Technology PostsThe external influence I have chosen in this essay is medical technology. Medical technology provides new diagnostic procedures, advanced drugs or devices that improve the quality of life and keep in check chronic conditions. The use of this has a great impact on health care organizations as well as health care administrators and they are as follows. The organizations need a high skilled workforce to handle the management of information systems. Various professionals in the health sector need training to be able to use technology in their service delivery. The stake holders in the health care provision may require funding research clinical trails related to the technologies they wish to adopt. In Canada the University of Calgaryâs faculty of medicine has researched on the use of an iphone to diagnose stroke (Mitchel l JR, et al 2011).Medical technology also influences various health policies in terms of assessment to ensure safety, quality, efficacy and effectiveness. These policies may be on the innovation of drugs, devices and clinical procedures. It also impacts on central planning by these organizations to reduce utilization of high technology procedures to control medical costs. The health care administrators who adopt various medical technologies are able to contain costs and improve the quality of health care given to the patients. With minimized error in capturing of the data for the patients cases of misdiagnosis are reduced and the appropriate treatments given and follow up of patientsâ cases is easier. The daily administration of the health facilities is more effective in records, billing, budgeting. The health administrators are dependent on the information systems for timely management of data. The demographics of any healthcare setting is simply a reflection of our changing society at large. Todayââ¬â¢s population looks very different than it did fifty years ago. Not only has there been a profound transformation in this area there has also been a shift in the responsibilities that a health-care worker has to his/her patients. They must address the needs of the whole patient and provide care that is not only medically competent but culturally competent as well. The social context is a significant factor in how healthcare is delivered. Transcultural nursing practices have evolved in the latter part of the 20th century and still remain a key part of effective nursing practices. However, understanding is only the beginning. It is only when the key concepts of transcultural nursing are embedded in the practice of an effective and enlightened health care worker can we sa y with confidence that we are treating the whole patient. The founder of the transcultural theory is Madeleine Leininger. Her work covered much of the 20th century and beyond and was the first to define Transcultural nursing. It was because of her work and perseverance that this area of nursing became a formalized way of improving health care practices. His speeches to the people in times of need were always inspiring, while simply delivered in a way that made them perfectly understandable to every person. In his speech The Defense of Freedom and Peace at the beginning of World War II, Churchill is very persuasive and uses simple yet illustrative literary devices and diction to inspire, convince, and persuade the British people to prepare for war and the American people to join Englands worthy cause. Each literary device that Churchill uses enhances his message, adding to the beauty, and importance of the cause. During Churchills speech The Defense of Freedom and Peace, he decorates his message with literary devices such as allusion, rhetorical question, and imagery. Perhaps one of the most emotional of literary devices, Winston Churchill makes good use of the allusion. Not only does it show his intelligence, but also it gives his audience an idea of his true meaning. We will write a custom essay sample on Winston Churchill Literary Devices or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page The first time he states, the American people can wash their hands of the whole business. This allusion is to the story of Pontius Pilate and Jesus, how the Prefect Pilate washed his hands in a basin of water as a physical sign that he was going to have nothing to do with Jesus fate. This instance brings to mind stories of brutal death and betrayal, which add to the emotion felt by the audience. Another device that Churchill makes excellent use of in this speech is the rhetorical question. When he uses this device, the questions cause his audience to think about the answer, which leads the people to consider more thoroughly what the consequences are. Has any benefit or progress ever been achieved by the human race by submission to organized and calculated violence? asks Churchill. Of course, he is not searching for an answer but for comprehension from his audience. In this question, he is asking the people to remember a time in history that any benefit came from succumbing to violence. If his audience could think of an instance where there was benefit, then Churchills argument would not be as strong. However, no one remembers progress and good that ever was the product of submission to brute force. In the last paragraph of his speech, Churchill asks of the people, Is this a call to war? Does anyone pretend that preparation for resistance to aggression is unleashing war? (Churchill). Here he asks if his audience believes he is calling them to war. Is calling America and Britain to arm in defense against Hitler asking them to fight? No, Winston Churchill is not asking these countries to go to war, but instead he asks them to defend themselves and their allies against the threat of the Nazis. Hence, his question about unleashing war is asking his audience to remember that they are not attacking Hitler, only preparing to fend him off. In The Defence of Freedom and Peace there are many more rhetorical questions, each, like the two above, inciting thought, understanding, and agreement from listeners. Churchill also makes admirable use of imagery in this speech. Actually, one might make the conjecture that Winston Churchills use of this rhetorical device is to frighten his audience. For an example, the speaker makes the statement, It [Czechoslovakia] is now being digested (Churchill). What a frightening image! The Nazi force has devoured and is digesting that country, absorbing the land and the people into the German rule. It creates an image of a formidable beast that has eaten the small country, which will soon be completely gone. Indeed, this statement displays how the Nazi forces are really starving for power, devouring whatever they can. Later in his speech, Churchill says It is not a new theme; it leaps out upon us from the Dark Ages (Churchill). Referring to the racial persecution, religious intolerance, deprivation of free speech, the conception of the citizen as a mere soulless fraction of the State, the mention of the Dark Ages reminds the audience of that time when life and government were poor, overrun with tyranny and confusion. Such a memory causes the people to become frightened that times may take a turn for the worst again, returning to those years of pain and no new ideas. Among all of the famous orators in history, one man who deserves to be remembered well is Sir Winston Churchill. His excellent use of rhetorical devices in his speeches, especially in The Defense of Freedom and Peace, is inspiring and thought-stimulating to his audience. Whether using the rhetorical question or the allusion or some other device, Churchill employs it in ways that are persuasive and relatable. His speech is plain in that no unnecessarily large or obscure words are used, but his uses of literary devices add beauty and elegance to the message Churchill is attempting to relay. Yet his use of rhetoric is strong, calling forth great emotions and resolves to see Hitler destroyed like Actaeon and to resist digestion by the Nazi beast that seized and devoured Czechoslovakia. It is, in fact, Churchills brilliant employment of rhetorical devices that make his speeches inspiring and worth remembering years after the memorable mans death. gracewright197423http://www.blogger.com/profile/17427877815216167041noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3781469143347772366.post-88100114364983435412020-03-27T02:26:00.001-07:002020-03-27T02:26:03.438-07:00Anti LGBT law EssaysAnti LGBT law Essays Anti LGBT law Essay Anti LGBT law Essay LGBT youth as well as young adults are predisposed to more health concerns than heterosexual youth and young adults. A study by Ayalon and Alvidrez (2007, p.1326) revealed that there are many cases of HIV diagnoses among gays below 25 years of age who come from racial and ethnic minority communities. This study concluded that risk factors for mental health challenges and involvement in drug and substance abuse are more evident among LGBT youth than their heterosexual counterparts. The National Institute of Health (NIH) (2013, p.5) posits that these risk factors include victimization, violence, harassment, and homelessness that make the youth and young adults in LGBT communities vulnerable. North CarolinaAnti LGBT Law In March 2016, the Governor of North Carolina, Pat McCrory, signed a law that requires citizens to use multi-stall bathrooms based on their birth certificates at various institutions such as schools, universities, and state agencies. This law is against the interests of the LGBT population because it compels transgender people to use rooms designated for women (Kopan Scott, 2016, p.1). According to the law, sexual orientation as well as gender identity can neither be used as the premise for the protection of people by local measures nor compel businesses to offer high minimum wages or paid sick leave. The law prohibits workers to file suit in the state courts against discrimination on the grounds of religion, color, age, handicap, race, national origin, and sex. Instead, it requires people to file their complaints to the State Commission. Elsewhere, in Harris County, Texas, a new inmate policy came to effect in 2013. The policy seeks to protect and guarantee LGBT inmates equal treat ment (Weaver, 2013). For example, the policy allows transgender people to choose their preferred gender and not biological sex as the basis for their provision of housing. References Ayalon, L., Alvidrez, J. (2007). (Kaplan, 2002). While depicting how rationalization of scarce resources can be made while considering the opportunity cost, PPF can be either contracting or expanding therefore subsequently reflecting the economic growth taking place in such an economy. When PPF expands, it may be considered that due to better utilization of resources i.e. low opportunity cost, economy is growing. However, Production possibility frontier of a nation may contract or move inward under certain conditions. One of the primary factors due to which a nationââ¬â¢s PPF may shift inward is the depletion of the resources of that nation. Due to, wars, natural catastrophe such as Tsunami, Plagues, earthquakes etc., the resources of the nation deplete at the higher rate than the capital formation process in the economy. For example, wars may cause the depletion of labor force because majority of the employable population would be engaged into potentially non-productive activities which on one hand will not only reduce the labor required to exploit the resources but on the other hand would include majority of labor force into non-productive activities.Considering an example of a hypothetical economy which only produces one good or service, it may be important to note that when if the opportunity cost of producing such good or services increase, the PPF may shift inward too because it would be too expensive to produce such good or service. Under such conditions, the PPF of a nation may shift inward.Bibliography1. Kaplan, J. (2002). Scarcity, Choice and the Production Possibilities Frontier. An excellent information technology industry leads the services sector in India. Indiaââ¬â¢s trade shortfall reached $16.86 billion in November 2014, which is the highest since early 2013 (Sedghi 2013). This shortfall is below November 2013ââ¬â¢s record of $10.6 billion, as well as the marketââ¬â¢s projected deficit of $15.6 billion. Imports increased 26.79% annually and exports rose 7.27% (Pawar and Veer 57). This made Indiaââ¬â¢s balance of trade average at $1.932 billion in 2014 from 1957 with record tops and lows in 1977 and 2012 of $258.9 million and $-20.211 billion respectively (Hanko Hackberry Group n.d.). This trade shortfall reached a seven-month maximum of $131.5 billion in September 2014. An outstanding decline in exports drove the rise in Indiaââ¬â¢s trade shortfall. Foreign sales tapered by 5% yearly in October 2014, which compared to the 2.7% growth of September. At the same time, imports slowed down significantly from a 26% increase in September to a poor 3.6% growth in October 2014 (Sedghi 2013). This notable decline in imports ec hoed a restraint in gold demand and a decline in oil imports. Indiaââ¬â¢s Foreign Trade (Development and Regulation) Act has been regulating imports and exports since 1992. This act gave the government vast regulation powers over the countryââ¬â¢s trade operations. The countryââ¬â¢s overall commodity trade rose more than three times from 2006ââ¬â¢s $252 billion to 2012ââ¬â¢s $794 billion (Hanko Hackberry Group n.d.). A majority of Indiaââ¬â¢s exports have been moving to Asia and Africa with Asiaââ¬â¢s share growing to 51.6% between 2011 and 2012 from 2001 and 2002ââ¬â¢s 40.2% (Sedghi 2013). Europe, as a destination of Indiaââ¬â¢s exports, saw a deceleration from 24.7% in 2001 and 2002 to 19% in 2011 and 2012. SPSL needs to plan for each and every customer interaction and make a record of every successful lead. A sales force system will help the company in complying with the companyââ¬â¢s process and will certainly result in successful interactions. â⬠¢ Opportunity management. If the process of sales force system is implemented correctly, than this will result in a profitable opportunity for the company and will result in an opportunity for sales. â⬠¢ Account management. SPSL has to effectively organize all the successful leads and integrate with customer accounts by implementing the sales force system. It could then be measured by relevant tools, process, and objectives of the sales force system. â⬠¢ Territory managementââ¬â for monitoring the account, the territory is measured by the number of account reps and prospective versus active customers. â⬠¢ Effective time management. SPSL needs to accurately measure the tasks which are related with implementing the sales force system and evaluate the time needed for performing each task. â⬠¢ Sales force management. This crucial process includes training and developing the companyââ¬â¢s sales staff regarding the sales force management system. Apart from that the management of SPSL should implement relevant IT systems and control process and spread it across relevant people and departments of the company. gracewright197423http://www.blogger.com/profile/17427877815216167041noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3781469143347772366.post-73542393566940007472020-01-27T04:49:00.001-08:002020-01-27T04:49:05.176-08:00Comparing the suitability of food production systemsComparing the suitability of food production systems Food and Beverage Operation Management Contents Task 1 Question Task 1 Answer Task 2 Question Task 2 Answer Task 3 Question Task 3 Answer Reference Task 1 Question 1.1) Discuss the characteristics of food production and food and beverage service system 1.4) Justify the suitability of systems for particular food and beverage outlets Task 1 Answer I have been assigned by the management to turn up with a better method in the kitchen to enable the hotel to produce good production in order to cater customer demand. I understand that the hotel currently adopting a conventional traditional production method in the main kitchen as they believe the food must be prepared by experts to maintain quality and the originality of the food itself. Conventional traditional production method is producing utilizing mainly fresh ingredients and traditional cooking methods (Foskett Paskins, 2011). In this system, the organization of the kitchen is based around the division of tasks into areas or groups of people performing analogous task which is highly in cost such as salaries and their equipment although it allows for specialization and development of a high level of skill, however it is labour intensive. Using conventional traditional convection method also means the production of the foods and beverages are masses and need to be similar or above the benchmarks which consume a lot of time to inspect the production and require more workers. In the traditional conventional system, they use the kitchen brigade where there can be many separate sections in the kitchen with staffs performing specific aspects of food production which is lead by the head chef. The method I have chosen which is superior to the conventional method is cook-chill method. Cook-chill method is food production storage and regeneration method utilising principle of low temperature control to preserve the qualities of processed foods. (Foskett Paskins, 2011) It is based on the normal preparation and cooking of food followed by rapid chilling storage in controlled low-temperature conditions above freezing point of 0-3 degree Celsius and subsequently reheating immediately before consumption which is done in the finishing kitchen. It is also used in volume catering such as hospital. In cook-chill system, they also use a traditional partie system which includes the head chef, deputy chef, chef de partie and cook but less staffs because cook-chill system does not use a large area and require minimum staff to work. The reason I chose Cook-chill systems because it requires low capital investment and minimum staff. Almost any food can be cook-chilled provided that the correct methods are used during the preparations. And the ingredients are already been prepared expect for the portioning unlike the traditional conventional method where they had to prepare everything from scratch for example they had to buy the meat fresh from the market or the supplier and send it to the section to cut the meats and preparing it for portioning. The purpose of using cook-chilled system is to prolong its storage life which is ideal since the hotel also caters for the Royal Brunei In-flight Catering. The advantages of using cook-chill system to the customer are it increased variety and selection, where there is a wide range of cuisine to choose from. It also improved the quality of the food because the standards are well maintained. The services can be maintained at all time regardless of staff absences because the foods are already prepared. Furthermore using cook-chill systems are less dependence on price fluctuation. The disadvantages of using cook-chill system are the textures and flavour may changes if the foods are not prepared carefully which can lead to customer dissatisfaction. When customers are not satisfied, they tend to spread the news that the hotelââ¬â¢s restaurant are not up to standard which lead to loss of customers. The service I have chosen for the hotel is American service. American service is portions of food are plated in the kitchen and served to each guest by waiter or waitress. The advantages of using American service are it is fast and simple and also inexpensive because it require less staffs to served the guest. Lastly using American service does not require staff to be highly trained technical staff hence less cost. The disadvantages of using American service are there is less showmanship which means the presentations are not beyond the customers expectation compared to silver service or English service. Finally using American service reduces personalized attention. This is because there is less staff to attend the customer which may affect the satisfaction of the customer. I am going to compare the seven stages in food and beverages between the traditional conventional system and the cook-chill system. Task 2 Question 1.2) Discuss factors affecting recipes and menus for specific system Task 2 Answer As the manager of the food and beverage for The Empire hotel and Country Club and as the supplier for the Royal Brunei In flight catering, I have to discuss the factors affecting recipes and menus for the food and beverage system. The first factor is about the type of menu choose for the in flight catering. There are two types of menu which are ala carte and table dââ¬â¢hote. Table dââ¬â¢hote is a full course meal that offers a limited choice within each course and served at a fixed price (Free Dictionary, n.d). Most airlines use table dââ¬â¢hote because it offers limited menus and use both in the business class and economy class. The prices are fixed which is easier for the airlines to calculate their cost and include it in the ticket bills. Meals that are included in the table dââ¬â¢hote are appetizer such as salad, main course and desert. Ala carte is where the dishes are listed separately and individually priced (A la Carte, n.d). It is not recommendable for airlines to utilize because it is inconvenient and maybe hard for the customers to pay because they may change their money currency to other and maybe it is insufficient. The best meal for in flight would be poultry because chicken is easy to prepare in a healthy way by grilling, roasting, sauteing, poaching, stir-frying and baking. According to the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, we should be eating lean sources of protein, including chicken. However chicken are likely contaminated with Salmonella. Salmonella is a bacterium that occurs mainly in the gut of the poultry which causes food poisoning (Foskett Paskins, 2011). But we make sure it doesnââ¬â¢t happen by checking with our supplier and make sure that our supplier has a certificate that shows they can legally and certified from the government to operate. Healthy eating has become a trend nowadays as according to a study conduct by Nielsen (2015). The percentage of adults around the world is overweight with an increase of 30% over the past 30 years while children are 47%. According to statistic World Health Organization, WHO, shown that 1.6 billion adult are facing overweight and 400 million people are obesity. This is serious problem to the people in the world. Due to this problem, consumers from around the world are starting to become more health conscious. Therefore we will modify the food into more healthier such as using less oil, grilling and using olive oil instead of palm oil. Different people have different needs. Some people have different outcome when consuming food or beverages. The dangerous thing is when they have food allergy which may be fatal if consume. Apart from that, the individual consumer need such as those with special diets for example; consumers with high cholesterol will need low a cholesterol meal while vegetarians will be offered a vegan meal. Other examples are gluten free meal, non lactose meal, low sodium meal, bland meal, high fiber meal, low protein meal, children and infantââ¬â¢s meal (Royal Brunei Airlines, n.d.). That is why individual customer needs special diets such as no sugar or no peanuts. The customers should tell the staffs or in their booking reservation that they need special dietary to ensure that they will receive exceptional meals with special dietary. In accordance to Islamic law, any Islamic airlines are not allowed to serve pork or alcohol unless it is requested by the consumers. But since the Empire Hotel and Country Club Bruneiââ¬â¢s restaurant has Halal certification, we will not serve any pork or alcohol. Task 3 Question 1.3) Compare the cost and staffing implications for different systems Task 3 Answer Before I present my proposal to the management, I will make as any changes will incur cost, therefore I will compare the cost and staffing implication for each system which is the traditional conventional method and cook-chill method. From the table above, cook-chilled has proven to be better than traditional conventional method. From the cost associated with products, in conventional method, the ingredients have to bought daily and they need to prepare the ingredient right after it arrives unlike the cook-chill, ingredients are already been cut from the supplier and ready to be chilled to ensure its quality are not degraded which save a lot of time and energy of the staff. Also the finished product of the conventional method cannot last long unlike the cook-chill method where the product can last at least 5 days (Foskett Paskins, 2011). Although the machinery for cook-chill are expensive but for long term investment it is worth because there are less staff needed to operate in the kitchen which means it is easier to handle the kitchen. In addition, there are lesser equipments needed because most of the ingredients are already been prepared (James, 2012). And lastly, only few staffs needed for cook-chill which means fewer salaries to pay to the employee unlike the conventional method where they need more staff to operate in different part of the kitchen and it is hard to keep track of their well being and the work time in the conventional method is longer because they have to prepare the ingredients from scratch (Royal Brunei Airlines, n.d.). Therefore the method I have chosen is better than the hotel current method because it is effective and more efficient working environment to the hotel. Reference BusinessDictionary.com,. Prose and verse in the late- nineteenth and early- twentieth century ââ¬â¢s.Being interested in your creations I took more interest in knowing about yourself. You were born in Bombay, British India on 30 December 1865. In 1870 you were taken to England and stayed with a foster family and did your education there.Later you came to India in 1882 and worked as a journalist, writing poetry and fiction in your spare time. I had gone through your oeuvre and I really marveled which made me go into a deep thought of your perspective on imperialism. In 1888 you wrote ââ¬Ëplain Tales from the Hillsââ¬â¢ which won success in England. Again in 1889 you went to live in London. There you met your soul mate Caroline Balestier and married her in 1892.And then you moved to a place called Vermont in the United States where her family lived, your two daughters were born there. Then you wrote the most fantabulous work â â¬ËThe Jungle Bookââ¬â¢ in1894.I think you got the inspiration to write this from your environment. Because when you were writing this, your abode was in the forested area called Vermont. Alright!I have to stop here Because I want to talk more about this work. So now I am going to discuss the rest with you. In 1896, you moved with your family from Vermont to England because of some family affairs. I do not want to discuss that. Because that is not my area, isnââ¬â¢t it? Then your most beloved son John was born in 1897, to whom you later addressed the poem ââ¬ËIfââ¬â¢ which very much exhibited the qualities of men during Victorian times and it is often discussed by the critics as a ââ¬Å"stoic poemâ⬠. Then you wrote the series of works like ââ¬ËStalky and Coââ¬â¢ in 1899, ââ¬ËKimââ¬â¢ in 1901 and ââ¬ËPuck of Pookââ¬â¢s Hillââ¬â¢ in 1906. Your contribution of ââ¬ËJust So Storiesââ¬â¢ in 1902 were originally written for your beloved daughter Josephine,à who died unfortunately at the age of six because of pneumonia. Thatââ¬â¢s why this work reflects the stories of children. When I was analyzing your work I came to know that it offers us a clear and sensitive picture of English people who lived in the late 19th century in India. And it is obviously seen that you are an ââ¬Å"accurate reporterâ⬠and was capable of giving the faithful account of the commonplace and people of what you had seen. In this time, I want to take account of your uni que perspective. This is one of the things that I loved in you ââ¬âthat your works do not reflect anyone elseââ¬â¢s ideologies. It always stands a remarkable thing. The preliminary study of your works had revealed an idea which is to be taken into consideration. It displays that your works of six essays, ten addresses, four volumes of letters, five full-length books, one hundred and eleven short stories, and one hundred and seventy-eight poems were in quite touching with the phenomenon called ââ¬Ëculture shockââ¬â¢. Kipling, donââ¬â¢t consider me as an over-talkative person for I am going to explain what is a culture shock. Because you know what it means, but the readers of this letter have to know about it something. Culture shock is a synonym for homesickness, an experience normally associated with insecurities of childhood. This will occur when a person is suddenly removed from a familiar environment to an unusual one commonly exhibits confusion and hostility. You suffered from this effect for about eight such times at approximately five years intervals of your first forty years of your life. Even though this happens continuously, your works were highly outstanding. But some critics made this culture shock as wide as possible and criticized you every angle. I had no opinion on this matter. But I want to tell something, I think because of this culture shock only you could deliberately deliver your mind about the things that surround you, otherwise, I would miss this unique use, Kipling.Once again I repeat that it was my own opinion and it can be interpreted in some other way. Another criticism is about your famous phrase ââ¬ËWhite Manââ¬â¢s Burdenââ¬â¢. Actually, it means ââ¬Å"the alleged duty of the white peoples to bring their civilization to other peoples regarded as backwardâ⬠. But the critics took this phrase and classified you as a ââ¬ËRacistââ¬â¢. Their perspective is that you are the one who differentiated as white man and backward, so they criticized in that way. But I want to look it from your view. I think you wrote it in the perspective of how I understood ie.,â⬠Imperialism was not just a way for countries to grab power; it was also a form of humanitarianism, a way to help fewer fortune people by the governing people.â⬠So only you mentioned that it was the responsibility of ââ¬ËWhite Manââ¬â¢s Burdenââ¬â¢. Alright Kipling, now I come to the point which I mentioned earlier to discuss that is ââ¬â The Jungle Book. Actually, it is a collection of seven different short stories. However, only three of them have Mowgli and the characters associated with him. While the rest four stories happened completely elsewhere and in different situations. When I came to analyze this piece of work I understood that its culture period is during British Raj ââ¬â British ruling over India (1858-1947). So many critics call you as a racist, misogynist, and imperialist. And some argue that this piece was about the politics occurred at that time. All that shouldnââ¬â¢t matter anyway, because itââ¬â¢s a great story of imagination and above all, it opens up the relationship between you and the forest in India. And I also enjoyed the way Mowgli grows up and the way he and other animals interact with each other, itââ¬â¢s completely breathtaking. I believe that while you were undoubtedly a man of your time and country, your stories are less about politics and more about your own humanity. The story seems to be more similar to your life history. Though the scholars criticized this work in a di fferent way, I canââ¬â¢t deviate my views from the eyes of imagination and enjoyable experience which I had when I read it. Last but not the least adding to your accolades, Nobel Prize for Literature in 1907 making you the youngest and first English language writer increased my zeal towards the language. Likewise, as these games allow players to cooperate and compete against each other from different boundaries, there is now a rising concern of whether the game creates benefits to players or only serves as addiction to those who engage in such activities. Due to this, it is important to determine the scope and challenges surrounding massive multiplayer games to actively decipher appropriate strategies for further development. Understanding the Concept Looking at it, the term multiplayer games denotes from the ability of one player to actively take part in a video game together with patrons around the world in a simultaneous manner. ). These games allow players to cooperate and compete against each other on a large scale, often with other players around the world. It is a natural evolution to gaming with the widespread use of the internet that has opened up a global community. As far as the overall process is concerned, for players to participate in these games, you must first purchase the game and then pay a monthly fee to play to compete in the game. MMORP games that make the most money are those that keep people subscribed or buying new items for several consecutive months. The explosion in popularity and sales has drawn a much closer look into the attraction of gaming and its effect on game players. Consequently, there is a renewed interest in finding out the relevant effect of this activity particularly among gamers themselves. This has sparked the interest of researchers and everyone wanting to know what the craze is all about. Is it an addiction, or are there real benefits that draw the player in to these games? On one hand, we can see that these people to gain experience and recognition for their work. At the same time, it opens up the foundations of reaching out to individuals in different cultures with the game as a medium. However, that is precisely what draws the gamer in; it separates them from the real world. It is easy to understand the allure of MMOGââ¬â¢s on gamers. They take place in a separate universe, and you can create a character for yourself that is exactly the person you want to be. This game universe has it own rules, culture, and society of people with all kinds of interactions taking place. The possibilities for exploration are unlimited and there are no physical consequences to your actions. What do studies say? Relating this to research and studies, a 2007 Harris Interactive poll of 1,187 youths aged 8-18 gathered detailed data on youth opinions about video game play. About 81% of youths stated that they played video games at least once per month. Furthermore, the average playing time varied by age and sex, from 8 hours per week (responses from teen girls) to 14 hours per week (responses by teen boys). Teens (8-12 year olds) fell in the middle, with boys averaging 13 hours per week of reported game-play, and girls averaging 10. Harris concludes that 8. 5% can be classified as pathological or clinically ââ¬Ëaddictedââ¬â¢ to playing video games. (Harris Interactive) Dr. Douglas Gentile, Director of the Media Research Lab at Iowa State University and the director of research for the National Institute on Media and the Family, states, ââ¬Å"It is important that people realize that playing a lot is not the same thing as pathological play. For something to be an addiction, it has to mean more than you do it a lot. It has to mean that you do it in such a way that it damages your life. This is why we based our definition on how pathological gambling is diagnosed in the DSM-IV. Almost one out of every ten youth gamers shows enough symptoms of damage to their school, family, and psychological functioning to merit serious concern. â⬠(Harris Interactive) Lastly, to Dr. Suzanne Martin, Youth and Education Researcher at Harris Interactive, ââ¬Å"The prevalence of video gaming in youth culture in combination with this level of pathological video gaming is great cause for concern and highlights the need for further research in this arena. â⬠Gamers who were surveyed and classified as pathological were receiving lower grades in schools than their peers, were more likely to have video game systems in their bedrooms (65%), were spending much more time playing games each week (averaging 24. 5 hours per week), and were also more likely to have been diagnosed with an attention deficit problem. (Harris Interactive) Analysis The Harris Interactive report seems to indicate a considerable amount of usage among children and tweens; but does not indicate that it is a cause of the games themselves. A deeper look into other factors associated with gamers needs to be considered. Do these children or tweens spend more time at home because of both parents work schedules? Is there a correlation to the household income and the affordability of the games that makes them more accessible and appealing? Is there a correlation to the popularity of a video/media culture so much more accessible to children now that also plays an influence? There is apparently cause for some concern; but a deeper look in the other factors needs to be considered before a judgment can be Evaluation Evaluating these studies, it can be argued that there are indeed positive and negative consequences that can be deciphered as far as massive multiplayer games are concerned. Looking at it in a constructive manner, this process creates opportunities for players to discover and enhance their creativity within the specific game and platform. Moreover, it extracts the necessary skills needed in either to solve a quest or achieve a common goal. This in turn allows them to expand on their capabilities and create outcomes that will enhance their cognitive capabilities. On the other hand, there are also negative consequences of too much exposure in this area. In here, individuals can get addicted in the process and create a world of their own. Seeing this, players alienate themselves towards reality as they become immersed with the game they are involved in. Such idea can generate negative consequences psychologically, physically, and socially. Seeing this, it is then essential that a form of consensus and control be initiated in the process. This means that parents must actively create methods that will allow their children not only to immerse in such activity but also give them other options to consider. Though we may not be able to take away these things to children, having a specific playing time can encourage them to explore other possibilities available for them. By doing this, players can maximize the benefits of the game they play and limiting the possibilities of addiction that may be incurred during the process. gracewright197423http://www.blogger.com/profile/17427877815216167041noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3781469143347772366.post-51122637536027064962020-01-02T17:58:00.001-08:002020-01-02T17:58:04.350-08:00Writing Topics for an Essay Developed With Analogies An analogy is a kind of comparison that explains the unknown in terms of the known, the unfamiliar in terms of the familiar. A good analogy can help your readers understand a complicated subject or view a common experience in a new way. Analogies can be used with other methods of development to explain a process, define a concept, narrate an event, or describe a person or place. Analogy isnt a single form of writing. Rather, its a tool for thinking about a subject, as these brief examples demonstrate: Do you ever feel that getting up in the morning is like pulling yourself out of quicksand? . . . Irvine, On Desire, 2006) British author Dorothy Sayers observed that analogous thinking is a key aspect of the writing process. A composition professor explains: Analogy illustrates easily and to almost everyone how an event can become an experience through the adoption of what Miss [Dorothy] Sayers called an as if attitude. That is, by arbitrarily looking at an event in several different ways, as if if it were this sort of thing, a student can actually experience transformation from the inside. . . . The analogy functions both as a focus and a catalyst for conversion of event into experience. The movie is based around the Salem witch trial which took place in Salem, Massachusetts in 1692. Where a bunch of young girls in the community of Salem had just simply went into the woods with an African American slave woman named tituba to create a love potion for young men to fall in love with them like any other normal young girl might think would just be fun. The girls were then seen dancing naked in the woods by reverend parris which happens to be one of the girlââ¬â¢s uncle and this is pretty much where all hell broke loose in Salem. (The Crucible 1996) As the movie goes on it goes on to show that all the girls thatâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦The girls would get into weird poses and faint and things like that to show that they were being possessed by the witches. Answer: Every human being has emotions in himself or herself and they differ from one individual to another. Emotions usually have huge impact on the social life of a person and if they are not handled and managed in the right way, they may lead to deterioration of ones social life (Williamson, 2015). The process by which someone gets to identify his or her emotions, learn how to reason about them, manage them and also get to manage the emotions of those around him or her is called emotional intelligence. Over the years I had always thought that emotional intelligence was something that was in built in a person, that is, a person was born with it and possessed it naturally. Since I got some experiences in the various places I had worked, my perception about emotional intelligence changed (Marks, Horrocks 2016). I had come to realize that yes it is true that some people naturally has high emotional intelligence than others but it also true that a person can acquire emotional intelligence or improve it. From my work place experiences I had learnt to identify my emotional strengths and weaknesses. This became very needful when I realized that I needed to improve my work performances and give outstanding results. I used the personal SWOT analysis as an appropriate tool for me to carry out this exercise. I had to use the concept of SWOT analysis so that I can assess my capabilities. From my personal SWOT assessment, I learnt that I possessed the following strengths: having a perspective, when it came to providing wise counsel to others I was very useful and I was also able to find solutions and make right decisions in challenging situations. I had to be kind to my colleagues, and therefore, I could offer assistance whenever needed. Being persistent, no matter how hard a situation seemed to be, I never gave up until the objective was achieved. The love of learning, I was perfect in everything and hence in some occasions, I found myself making mistakes. I never cared about the criticism of the others nor drew back after making the mistakes but instead I focused on learning from the mistakes. My weaknesses were as follows; I was always poor when it came to socializing with people or getting used to them. Close-mindedness, I always believed that my ideas and opinions were the best and never took time to think about what the others had in mind. Low self- esteem, I always wanted to be thought highly of by people after I had a success in whatever I was doing and if they failed to do so, I would start to think negatively of myself and even the successful outcome. The opportunity I had was that I had a lot of people to seek assistance from and to get knowledge from. Furthermore they would always provide a favorable environment for one to fit in. The competitive environment formed by my fellow colleagues was the only threat I had. This, therefore, meant that I keep working hard instead of relaxing. In my work place not everything went us I had expected them to. In some instances I found myself in situations that were very stressful and gave a negative impact to my emotions. In one instance I was given a lot of tasks to do. I kept on asking myself why I was the one chosen to do those tasks or if I had done something wrong that now I was facing the consequence. To make it worse, nobody offered me any help and I ended up taking a lot of hours to complete the tasks. Due to this I had negative feelings about what people thought about me. In such a case, I felt so sad and angered. I learnt that for me to avoid the negative emotional state caused by such an instance I need to always take everything the positive, for instance taking the many tasks given to me as an opportunity to learn how to multi-task. Another instance was when I had failed to meet the objectives that I had set for myself. This made me feel like a failure and worthless. Occasionally, I blamed myself and therefore, I had low feelings about myself. To avoid such circumstances I had to learn how to accept defeat and deal with it in a way that it does not cause a negative impact on my emotional state. Another instance was when I had a project and no one gave me their support. No matter how hard I tried to initiate them into by asking for their ideas or what they thought about a particular action, nobody showed any interest. I felt more so sad and isolated and never was comfortable doing the project. Later own I learnt that search situations should never set me back but instead I should always forge with whatever I have decided to do whether the others are in support of it or not. I as any normal person I always had things or situations that would trigger my emotional state. To be specific what particular triggered my emotional state was what people said and did. For instance when I was not appreciated for anything good I had done then I would become low in spirit. Having identified this as my trigger I had to learn to stop doing things to appreciate for and always not be demanding to people to how they should treat me but be happy for whatever opinion they have. Such a reaction from me would have a good impact on those around me. Another trigger I identified was being scrutinized. This made so angry and feel a lot of hate because I felt that those who scrutinized me always wanted to find faults in me and pin me down. I realized that I should always be great full for such me people because they helped me find my weaknesses which I needed to work on. Furthermore I needed to also accept others opinion about myself and never shut them down. One of the challenging tasks was being a leader because I had to coordinate the team I was leading. I had the role of ensuring that every member of the team fully participated. This meant that I had to manage and control my emotions (Ahuja, 2016). Since emotions are usually the main setbacks when working in teams. One major value that I had to portray was valuing the others point of view even if I never agreed with them. My role was to ensure that the team accomplished the required tasks. I also had to portray effective communication among the group members to avoid a lot of misunderstanding. From the various experiences I had in my work place, I found several ways on how to improve my emotional intelligence. To overcome this, I had to change my negative emotions and the fear of being rejected. Also I had to learn to have an open mind. Another way is by managing stress, this would be done by engaging in activities that would relieve of the stress such as doing exercise or listening to cool music. Another way is by avoiding being reactive when dealing with very difficult people. I had to learn how to control myself and check the consequence of my reaction. The experiences that I learnt from the workplace have kept me delighted all through. I have now learnt how to manage my emotions and those of other people. References Ahuja, S. (2016). There are songs that have been played thousands of times and the money that the artists receive can be something like 30 Euro. This seems to be too little. gracewright197423http://www.blogger.com/profile/17427877815216167041noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3781469143347772366.post-27220329225691550842019-11-26T19:33:00.001-08:002019-11-26T19:33:03.046-08:00Essay Pearl HarborEssay Pearl Harbor Essay Pearl Harbor High School Diploma vs. GED ââ¬Å"Many people argue the point of a GED being equal to a high school diploma. Some people believe that high school graduation is the first step toward higher benefits and a career in the future for a teenagerâ⬠. Others believe a GED gives the same benefit. I stand on the side of the first. I believe that a high school diploma gives a graduate a better opportunity towards a higher education and a rewarding career. A GED is an alternative for people unable or unwilling to complete high school. High School Journal. Apr/May2012, Vol. 95 Issue 4, p4-18. 15p. Many students spend years earning their high school diploma to prove their knowledge in the core classes in their states. Others taking GED classes only take one test in one day to move on to college. Most community colleges recieve students who have a GED. Community colleges even offer GED courses. Getting a high school diploma on the other hand, is a guaranteed community college admittance. Some colleges won't view the GE D as equal to a high school diploma. In fact many colleges consider the a diploma superior to a GED. Many people disagree with GED process due to the fact that students are not required to take traditional coarses to earn a GED. A high school graduate on the other hand is required to take four years of high school courses. Students who take the GED test may not have some of the skills a high school graduate has. "Time Magazine" reports that students with a GED are often times less qualified for some jobs than high school graduates. One way a GED can benefit a person is if that person can go to a college and obtain a degree. In that instance, getting a job is reasonably easy. With a degree employees know they are hiring someone who can complete a goal they've set. On the other hand and applicant with only a high school diploma vs. an applicant with a GED, a diploma will always be viewed as dominate. Here are three simple types of unnecessary wording to keep in mind (and out of oneââ¬â¢s writing). 1. Extinguish Expletives An expletive is an indirect phrase that only delays a readerââ¬â¢s acquaintance with the writerââ¬â¢s point. Expletives include ââ¬Å"There is,â⬠ââ¬Å"there are,â⬠ââ¬Å"there was,â⬠and ââ¬Å"there were,â⬠as well as any of these phrases with it substituting for there. It is not necessary to always delete expletives, as the current sentence demonstrates, but they should be employed judiciously. In most cases, simply sweep the expletive away and begin with a subject, as in revision of ââ¬Å"There are other steps a company can take before an economic downturn to protect against its impactâ⬠to ââ¬Å"A company can take other steps before an economic downturn to protect against its impact.â⬠2. Adjust Adjectives to Adverbs Business-speak, when rendered as text, is often notoriously stilted and verbose. One class of wordy wording often found in business writing is represented by such adjective-noun phrases as ââ¬Å"on a daily basis,â⬠which is easily replaced by the adverbial form of the adjective (which in this case is identical: daily). Regarding similar usage, ââ¬Å"This issue will be resolved on a case-by-case basisâ⬠is easily converted to ââ¬Å"This issue will be resolved case by case.â⬠(Again, the replacement is identical, though the hyphens are now superfluous.) Sometimes, the writer must replace the adjective, as in the case of timely, which is seldom used as an adverb and does not stand as such on its own: To render ââ¬Å"in a timely mannerâ⬠more concise, for example, simply substitute promptly. 3. Avoid Adjectives Some adjectives and adverbs themselves are extraneous. Such qualifiers as currently and different almost never contribute to comprehension. For example, in ââ¬Å"We are currently accepting applications,â⬠the verb are clearly represents that acceptance of application is a current state, meaning that currently serves no useful purpose, and ââ¬Å"These shirts come in seven different colorsâ⬠provides no more information than ââ¬Å"These shirts come in seven colors,â⬠and different can therefore be omitted without negative consequences. Failing which in either of the cases, the amendments may be nullified. The proprietary rights of the shareholders have to be upheld but not at the cost of the company according to the British Law, in contrast to the Australian perception of the matter. Exercising of the majority powers by the shareholders of a company is pretty rampant in the country. It is with utmost care and interest that the courts need to implement these laws so that the suppression of the shareholding minorities is protected and at the same time, the objectives of the company are not diluted. However, the point raised in the indicated quote is to ensure that the interest of both the minorities and that of the company should also be protected. In the name of protecting the interest of the minorities, the company should not be ending up as a loser in the game thereby, bringing down the interests of the rest of the shareholders of the company. In order to understand this, the idea of proprietary rights being protected has to be analyzed. Proprietary rights in most cases have been the ownership rights or the right to own. In cases related to owning land or building there had not been contentions on the proprietary rights of a person and what is offered to one person is same as the other one3. Whereas in the case of shareholder proprietary rights, the minority shareholders rights might be different from what the majority shareholder might have. The association of the company could be for one simple reason that of the company making more profits or as high a profit as is legitimately possible. gracewright197423http://www.blogger.com/profile/17427877815216167041noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3781469143347772366.post-60706585953960425272019-11-19T16:52:00.001-08:002019-11-19T16:52:03.555-08:00The Puritan Dilemma Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 wordsThe Puritan Dilemma - Essay Example the new colony, including several deaths and several colonists returning to England, the situation in the new world has changed dramatically and we have seen a great number of new settlers arrive and settle in our area. We have found a favorable place to settle with a beautiful harbor and enjoy a great deal of freedom in practicing our religion as we see fit. This is the greatest reason why one should choose to move to our colony even should it be necessary to practice some untruth to escape the oppressive nature of the kingdom by obtaining licensing to Virginia and then traveling to Massachusetts. Under Winthropââ¬â¢s guidance, the colony has done very well. We had a good start thanks to Winthropââ¬â¢s efforts in carefully selecting our founding colonists to be God-fearing men and women with a good variety of skills that would be helpful in the new world. Of the first 1000 settlers, we had coopers, sawyers, doctors, pastors and other skilled workers and planters as well as an enormous supply of provisions against our first few years of establishment. The first few struggles in which some of the colonists suffered illness and death and others left feeling the new world was not for them included the death of Winthropââ¬â¢s son and the surprise of finding earlier settlers dispirited and starving upon our arrival. However, thanks to Winthropââ¬â¢s guidance and planning, we were not concerned about survival within our first year of foundation and have even found a means of communicating amicably with our wild neighbors. It is one of the great dilemmas of our Puritan beliefs that we must often balance our decisions between life and God. Our excellent governor tells us to contemplate ââ¬Å"the problem of doing right in a world that does wrongâ⬠(Morgan, 1998: 203). Winthrop tells us about his love for hunting which is to such an extent that he realizes he should not take such pleasure in it if he is to properly serve God. ââ¬Å"Puritanism required that man refrain from gracewright197423http://www.blogger.com/profile/17427877815216167041noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3781469143347772366.post-73029152491227637272019-11-17T05:24:00.001-08:002019-11-17T05:24:05.405-08:00Role of Women in Russia Between 1928 and 1941 Essay Example for Free Role of Women in Russia Between 1928 and 1941 Essay How far did the role of women in Russia change between 1928 and 1941 The role of women in 1928 was that of being part of the work industry; 3 million women were employed because of the demands of the Five-year plans. Though Soviet Russia was meant to be a ââ¬Ëclassless societyââ¬â¢ there were still inequalities specifically between men and women. However by 1940 there were 13 million women working in the Russian industry which shows change nevertheless women spent an average of 5 times as longer on domestic responsibilitiesââ¬â¢ than men, this is an example of continuity. The domestic role for women was in in addition to working on collective farms or in Soviet industry they were expected to be responsible for household chores, such as cooking, cleaning and childcare. Furthermore another responsibility of women was to reproduce because the trauma of industrialisation and collectivisation had led to a dramatic decline in the birth rate in the early 1930s. The communist government then introduced polices to try and reverse this trend. In addition to these wives of party officials were expected not to work, but to devote themselves to managing ââ¬Ëa well-ordered communist homeââ¬â¢. In the 1920s it was common for communist families to employ nannies however by the mid-1930ââ¬â¢s this was frowned upon, this shows a significant change between what is the more important role to play in this time period. Women were now expected to be ideal mothers and partners. Their homes were to be examples of ââ¬Ëorder, warmth and feminine comfort, and their husbands expected their wives to be caring and attentive. They were the men there jobs consisted of being party leaders and even though they had been liberated from their domestic duties, such as chopp ing wood and carry water, due to mechanisation, women had none of these advantages. Also in the 1930s Zhenotdel, a womenââ¬â¢s branch of the Communist Central committee was closed down due to the fact that the Communist Party believed that sexuality had been achieved. Soviet authorities discouraged abortion in 1936, making it all but illegal. The law banned terminations except where they were necessary to save the life of a pregnant woman. This forced women to have children they may or may not have wanted. Doctors who performed abortions on ââ¬Ëunderservingââ¬â¢ women could be sentenced to two years imprisonment. Husband who put pressure on their wives to terminate pregnancy would then face the same penalty. This was to promote the image of ââ¬Ëa communist family lifeââ¬â¢ this consisted of the Stalin government reemphasising the value of marriage, they reintroduced wedding rings in 1936, and these had been banned in 1928. Also in 1936 the administration started printing marriage certificates on high quality paper to symbolise the importance of the union. Women were now getting married more and more frequently as the 1937 census showed that 82% of women aged 30 and 39 were married. The mid-1930s is when introducing traditional gender roles and sexual attitudes were reasserted across Russia. Making women stay at home and Communist husband were to be the main income earners in the family. Another way to promote ââ¬Ëa communist family lifeââ¬â¢ was to control the sex that went on. In 1934 the government reintroduced a more traditional perspective on sexual morality. This was backed up by police action against young women who had an ââ¬Ëimmoral appearanceââ¬â¢. This victimised woman as it was another rule to control their lives, in addition to this Soviet policy makers also turned against contraception. Another role of women that occurred during The ââ¬ËGreat Retreatââ¬â¢ was the Soviet authorities recognising the important contribution made by women to Russian industry; they then increased the allocation of place in height or technical education available to women, from 30% in 1929 to 40% in 1940. This was also a significant change as women were allowed to further their education however they were still unequal to their male counterparts as the income of men was only 60-65% of the income of men doing the same job. Another area women excelled was the agricultural economy. By 1945, 80 of collected farm workers were women. They also represented the e Stakjanovite movementt in the countryside. The most celebrate rural Stakhanovite were both female, gracewright197423http://www.blogger.com/profile/17427877815216167041noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3781469143347772366.post-28971252209151615062019-11-14T17:56:00.001-08:002019-11-14T17:56:03.311-08:00The Rotten Apple Essay -- Self Identity Stereotypes Stereotyping EssayThe Rotten Apple My mom has always told me, "If you're ever going to get anywhere in life, you have to make good first impressions!". I'll spare you the details about the hell holes I'd live in and the dead-end jobs described by my mom if I did otherwise. Not a lot of people would think this is a big deal. I mean, making a good first impression is one of the first things parents should be telling their kids to do right? I, however, get the lecture a lot when I was a kid. Heck, my mom called me last night to give me my fix. I seem to be unable to make any sort of good impression with lots of people. This is especially true with teachers. You had no idea the pain I went through trying to look for a teacher who liked me to write my recommendation. I'm not complaining though. I make no effort in trying to leave a good first impression, nor do I ever care for the first impression someone leaves after meeting me. What is a first impression anyway? It is probably the judgement a person makes on another based on the way he or she talks and acts in the first meeting. But in a lot of cases, first impressions are made based on the stereotypes, especially racial ones, that person fit in. "Wow, you must be really smart.". For most people, this is usually meant as a compliment. And I would take that comment as a compliment, if I had, for example, shown whoever said it the proof to a complicated math problem. But when given the comment the first time I meet someone, it means something completely different to me. It means they forgot to say "because you're Chinese". "Oh, stop complaining! You're in a good stereotype!" is the general response I get when I talk about this with my friends or people in general. Thatââ¬â¢s about when we would... ...identifies with a stereotype, he is losing a part of his self to the masses. He then tends to act or behave accordingly, based on what the stereotype demands of him. He asks himself, ââ¬Å"What am I supposed to do?â⬠as opposed to ââ¬Å"What do I want to do?â⬠. That ââ¬Å"wantâ⬠, I think, is the one answer of how to destroy the concept of stereotype. Still, I find it very ironic that, in a country found on the preservation of individuality and equality, there can be such problems associated with stereotyping and double standards. Perhaps, as a country, we are losing sight of the importance and mystique of the individual. Perhaps we are becoming too lazy and impersonal to understand each other for the human that we are, and not just some vague generalization. I am not a nerd, Americanized Chinese immigrant, Weezer-maniac, rebelling teen, overachiever, or crazed sports fan. I am Wang. gracewright197423http://www.blogger.com/profile/17427877815216167041noreply@blogger.com0
